Well we didn't get the expected snow, despite a temperature drop.  Let's hope the weather is as kind to us this week, with cross-country on Friday, at Wembury. Hopefully on home turf and with good support our runners will gain a home advantage and be enthused by their performances, no matter what?

Year 1 had the opportunity to get out the bikes and practise their skills of balance and control, in a two day course of Balanceability. This was run by qualified instructors from PSSP (Plymouth Schools Sports Partnership) as part of the support we buy in to as a school, using some of our PE funding.

There are a number of sporting events, coming up over the next couple of weeks, namely football, netball and rowing. Keep a look out for news on our performances at these events. We hope that some of the pupils from these events will write further blogs, of their own, on the national School Games website. And by coincidence last week we also received our GOLD sports plaque, of which we are very proud, though we were officially presented with our certificate in September.

News on the KS2 playground front is the erection soon of a MUGA! (Multi-use-games-area.) This will take the form of a fenced, and newly marked area, to play football, netball, basketball etc, so that these games are contained, especially at play and lunch times. (Unfortunately at this time the surface is not being replaced.) This will improve access to safe play areas without encroaching on the play of other playground users. The impact should be immediate.

You will have by now received information, regarding exploring the possibility of shaping a new MAT (Multi-Academy Trust)? Whilst it is inevitable that at some stage we will have to work with, and join, 'something' more formally, because standing alone is no longer an option. However it is essential to remind you, that at this stage, we are only exploring the option of a possible MAT. We will keep you updated and gather your views where appropriate.

FroWS have raised an amazing amount of funding that is primarily going towards supporting the remodelling of the swimming pool changing rooms. Surveys and initial work have been commissioned with the hope that work will be carried out over the Spring break, in readiness for summer use, and use of toilets and shower facilities for events such as the Big Camp Out and the Summer Fayre. A massive thank you to FroWS, who also ran the disco last Friday, raising over £200.

We are pleased to welcome Mr Martin Luck, as a new parent governor. Although only recently appointed he has already carried out some governor work! We are extremely please to welcome him and know that he brings a range of different skills and expertise to our fantastic and conscientious governing board

Parent pay appears not to have had as many glitches (!), and a thank you from the office staff for keeping accounts up to date and booking online in a timely manner.

A reminder that if contact details for your child have changed (email, telephone, address) please inform the office, as we are aware that some parents have not received messages or notifications and are therefore out of the loop.

Remember you can link the school calendar to your own electronic calendar (phone/iPad etc) to keep up to date with school events for the year.

Thank you all for your continued support with Wembury Primary School.
