Around the World at Wembury Primary

What a busy week! It was international Week, and each class chose a country to research, carried out activities and generally found out more about the world we live in. We were so pleased to see so many parents during our Open Afternoon, on Thursday 15th November. Hopefully you managed to visit more than just your child’s class, and get to taste some of the amazing Indian and Nepalese curries that were on offer, or the pitta bread and hummus from the Middle East, or did you get to try the pizzas and Sushi? Did you visit our French Club stall? What an amazing apple crumble and cream. There were a plethora of activities on offer. Many classes had filmed dances, which were playing in the background, there were models and art work, traditional games of that country, as well as fact finding missions. The children thoroughly embraced the week and I certainly enjoyed my worldwide tour!

Don't forget to look in the 'Learning Journey' section of your child's Class Pages too. Can you work out the country from the photo?

Spotty Socks, Anti-bullying

We also saw Anti-bullying week take part alongside our world tour; it kicked off with a spotty sock day on Monday 12th November. Thank you for your generous donations and sock efforts, including those produced with colouring pens and sticky labels.

Children in Need!

And yet another fantastic afternoon of cake eating and refreshments, which was very well supported by parents and family members – thank you. We have yet to count up all the pennies but this year seemed busier than others so no doubt you have helped us to raise a fantastic amount for, those more needy than ourselves. Take a look at the news event below where you can also find out about our Spotacular 3s!

Uniform

Unfortunately we are having difficulties in stock supply from our current supplier, and are therefore we are looking at an alternative supplier. We hope to have an online shop that will come directly from the supplier and either delivered to your home of to school. (This will include all the current sweatshirt colours, a range of limited colours for cardigans, white PE kit, book bags etc plus the option to purchase basics in trousers, shorts, skirts and dresses.) This will obviously take time to set up, ensuring the quality is good; we are conscious that in the meantime some of you will require uniform. We have had to lock the online link for now but we do have a range of uniform in stock. (More limited on sizes and colours in sweatshirts.) Please pop to the office or send in a request, when convenient to you, and purchase directly from school for the meantime. We also intend to have a pop-up shop where you will have opportunity to purchase new and second hand uniform. We are very sorry for the inconvenience, unfortunately the issue has been beyond our control.

FroWS

Fantastic news on the FroWS front – we have a very keen, new, committee with a number of enthusiastic helpers. Of course more help is always required and appreciated so look out for one of the committee or an up-and-coming event, to see how you too could help.

The new committee are - Louise Wise, Holly Vivian and Dan Gibbons, all bringing a range of skills, knowledge and experience with them. We of course have to say a massive thank you to our outgoing committee of Emma Draper, Kerry Booth and Shelley Roberts, who have been amazing in developing FroWS, with new events, promotions and generally getting people on board – THANK YOU!

Parent consultations

Don’t forget consultations are this week – please book online. We like to encourage as many parents as possible to attend so if you are unable to attend this week, please contact your child’s class teacher through the office to hopefully arrange an alternative date. Our next consultations will take place in March 2019; we are looking to change the format so that it is the child who leads the meeting. We look forward to seeing you.

Flu Vaccination Further Reminder

Flu vaccination will be carried out for Foundation to Year 5 (only) on Tuesday 27th November. This is a nasal spray process NOT and injection. You should have already booked online however, if you have mislaid link or are having difficulties please contact the office. Thank you.
