26.6.17

Thankfully all national primary testing is now over! We won't know how we compare to national data until around October time. Again, as in the past two years, there have been a number of changes - this time in how data will be reported. We await with anticipation!

Hopefully, for those of you with children in Years 1 to 6, you will have shared their annual reports with them, this weekend? It was a pleasure, even if a long task, to read how well children are doing and what they have been up to, in more detail. We would be grateful if you could complete the reply/comments slip, on the last page of the report, and return to the class teacher, as this is also confirmation of receipt. Thank you.

You will notice from the staffing, next September, that both Mrs Marie Bennett and Mrs Becki Graziosi will no longer be with us at Wembury. Both were on temporary contracts that will be coming to an end but Mrs Bennett has successfully gained a post in a Plymouth school and Mrs Graziosi has decided to work closer to her home. We shall miss them both as they have brought additional expertise and practice, and fitted well into the team. We wish them all the very best in the next part of their career.

This week has seen a number of competitive activities taking place, both in the sports and the academics. Year 5 have had a week of visits to Coombe Dean, taking part in Internet Safety, The Great Egg Race to name a couple. Check out what they have been up to and how well they did through the following links;

This week also saw the Devon Schools' Summer Games take place at Albion stadium and Brickfields. We had team representation in Rounders and Super6 Golf. Rounders rules were exceptionally strict, and as the children say -'we warmed into them.' Despite not gaining a top 3 place overall one of our  players, Kayla, was awarded a medal in recognition of her team skills, encouragement and conduct. (Well done to Kayla!) Our Super6 (actually Super5 as they were all Year 5) played to their strengths and brilliantly, gaining second place overall. An amazing feat - who knows, next year the same team might achieve one better!!?

At very short notice the school was invited to attend a swimming gala, at Plymouth Leander Swimming Club. The team came away with a plethora of medals, with some gaining 3 individual medals! They were pleased as punch and no wonder. If others schools had not heard of Wembury before they certainly have now! This week, with Year 5 and 6 out on their residential and activities week, there will be additional swimming sessions, so please make sure your child has their swimming kit in school every day. A reminder that no jewellery should be worn whilst swimming, this includes stud earrings, and long hair must to be tied up or a swimming hat worn.

Thank you so far for the donations of money and jars for the Summer Fayre. As you know the Fayre is this coming Saturday, 1st July 12.00 noon onwards. If you haven't signed up to support, on a stall, for half an hour and would like to volunteer, please see Emma Draper. Your help, however little, would be much appreciated. This Friday, 30th June, is our final Mufti Day - Cake donations please. FroWS have worked tirelessly in getting events organised to raise funds for the school and its pupils. They had an exceptionally successful Camp Out, raising over £300, and a lot of fun too! They have also recently bought new pool equipment, a storage unit to contain it all and we are now party to a lovely sail shade, by the poolside. How lucky are we to have this amazing asset, equipment and FroWS team. Thank you.

Governors have been very busy carrying out a range of focus visits. Each governor is assigned an area of school work, or curriculum area to monitor, ensuring standards are maintained, funding is appropriately and effectively used, and the school challenged and held to account. Feedback from these visits will be shared with staff, pupils and parents, through their newsletter towards the end of term.

To keep you updated on the MAT front (WeST), all schools considering becoming part of this MAT are currently in the process of carrying out due diligence on each other. (This involves looking at standards, Ofsted, buildings, land and assets.) We are hoping that results and information from this process will be available in the next couple of weeks. Without this, a finalised scheme of delegation, as well as some further questions re finances, governors are not in a position to be able to make a decision. Once we have further information we will ensure all are informed.

Looking forward to a fabulous Disco themed Summer Fayre - please come and join in the fun!
