To inspire the children to become confident, enthusiastic mathematicians, we decided to begin the year with a week of 'inspirational maths'. We have shared important messages with the children, much of which is based on scientific research. These include the fact that you are not born a 'maths person' - everyone can be good at maths; when you learn, persevere and challenge yourself, your brain grows; mistakes help us to learn and when you believe in yourself, you might be surprised by your achievements! We have discussed what effective group work looks like and how everyone visualises things differently. Today we created graphs based on personal interests and tomorrow we will be exploring a pattern and how it changes.
