Scorching Sports

What amazing weather for the annual Schools' Sports Athletics Competition at Brickfields. There were around 54 primary schools, with 18 in each category of school size, based on numbers in KS2. We were in the 'minors' - schools with one of the fewest number of pupils but that did not mean the events were not as highly competitive.

We had some scorching results - firstly, the first 2 finishers, in each track event, went on to the final. We managed 6 out of 8 sprint finals and out of the 6 our amazing athletes won 2! (Well done to Grace, Year 3 and Lewis, Year 6. In fact Lewis has won this event for the last 3 years!)

Our relay teams did brilliantly - no baton dropped - with the Y5/6 boys getting through to the final and coming in a very respective 3rd.

We had no idea how we had done in the field events so were delighted when Aidan, Year 6, picked up gold for the vertical jump - he even surprised himself.

As you can imagine pupils were delighted to represent the school, including Grace and Leaya (Year 6) who had to step in at the last minute, sporting the new kit. Their efforts, team spirit and self-organised entertainment, kept them focused, with impeccable behaviour.

The results were well deserved and on top of that a healthy sun tan was gained - fortunately, due to plenty of sun-cream reminders and the gazebo, none suffered.

A brilliant team effort all round, including the vocal support of our parents!

Go Team Wembury!
