Welcome to Wembury Pre-School
We are delighted that you and your child are joining us, and we trust that you will enjoy your time as a member of our Village Pre-School.
We are a community Pre-School run by a committee of volunteers. For details of current committee members please consult the notice board. We employ a team of trained staff of whom we are very proud. They are committed to providing the best possible care for the children whilst preparing them to meet the challenges of school. We are affiliated to the Pre-School Learning Alliance (South Hams & Ivybridge branch) and receive training and support from this national organisation. Our staff attend regular training sessions, hold qualifications in childcare and are first-aid trained.
Upon registering at Pre-School your child will be delegated to a member of staff who will be their Key-Worker. Please see further details of this responsibility included within this pack. You are invited to meet regularly with your Key-Worker to discuss your child’s progress. Please do also inform them of any events that may affect your child’s behaviour at any time.
We are open Monday to Friday during the school term. Morning sessions (Monday to Friday) run from 09.00 to 11.30, afternoon sessions (Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays only) run from 12.30 to 3.00. Please see further sheets for full details. We also offer a lunch club, which is open to all children between 11.30 and 12.30 daily. The cost is £1.80 if your child brings a packed lunch, or £3.55 if you would like to order a hot dinner from school. Please note that children can be collected at 11.45am from morning sessions, as the first 15 mins of the lunch club involves a story time.
The fee for each session is currently £6.50 (from October 2007) for non-funded children (i.e. less than 3 years of age), and £8.50 for all others (e.g. if funded sessions are used at another playgroup). Funded places (up to 5 sessions per week) are now available to all children, starting in the term following their 3rd Birthday. Fees are collected in the first two weeks of each half term. Unfortunately it is not possible to refund fees for allocated sessions, which are missed due to sickness or holiday absence. This is due to the constraints of the fixed daily financial outlay, which the Pre-School has to meet. If a long-term problem arises please do not hesitate to consult the administrator(s) who will try to come to some arrangement. It is with regret that non-payment of fees may result in the loss of a place at Pre-School. If you have any financial problems regarding fees please do approach the administrator(s) who will discuss the matter in confidence.
In order to keep fees as low as possible regular fund raising events take place for which we would welcome your support. These events enable us to purchase new equipment, replace consumables, pay for visitors to our sessions, the children’s Christmas party, and for other essentials to the efficient running of the Pre-School. If you have any suggestions for fund raising ideas we would love to hear from you!
Each parent/carer is expected to take a specified number of turns each half term on the rota duty. Please see the separate page in this pack outlining details of this role.
It is our policy at Wembury Pre-School that all children should wear the Wembury Pre-School uniform. It will be expected that all children will wear a red T-shirt and a blue or red sweatshirt showing the Wembury Pre-School logo. Both these items of clothing are available from the Pre-School administrator(s). Currently the T-shirts cost £4 and the sweatshirts £8 each. Please see attached sheet.
New children joining Wembury Pre-School will be offered a Welcome Pack for £20.00, consisting of: 1 T-shirt, 1 sweatshirt, a book bag, and 2 settling in sessions.
Book bags will be available at £3.00 to each child to transport their cherished creations and works of art home!
Pre-School weekly activities are based around a theme and include a specific weekly colour, shape, letter and number. You will be issued with a programme of these each half term in order for you to share these subjects with your child at home. We have an interest table to which your child is invited to bring any objects relating to any of these themes on a daily basis.
For more detail regarding the Pre-School provision, please refer to our prospectus enclosed. The curriculum provided by Wembury Pre-school reflects that set out by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority and The Department for Education and Skills, however we also include a provision of care for 2 ½ to 3 year olds. For this age range the learning goals are set out by the Birth to Three Matters Curriculum, and expectations are very different. Further it is our policy that staff will assist with any toiletry requirements.
Please do not hesitate to ask our administrators, a member of the committee, or staff any questions that you may have, we will be only too glad to help.
We look forward to sharing a very happy time with you at Wembury Pre-School.
