School Games Day
It has only happened once, in my time at Wembury, where we were unable to hold the School Games Day. We were so lucky, this year, to complete our KS1 day, just in time before the downpours came. Apologies for the rush of events towards the end and the manic changes to lunch arrangements. Hopefully all KS1 families and Pre-school were able to watch all events and those that wanted to, had lunch with their children?
There was a real determination from the children, throughout the morning events. They were as competitive as they wished to be and for some it was just having a go and join in. It was lovely to see so many parents and family members cheering and encouraging the children – thank you.
FroWS very kindly donated ice lollies for each KS1 child at the end of the morning, which were gratefully demolished! KS2 are yet to receive theirs as unfortunately we were unable to have their Games Day, either that afternoon or the reserve day. However, as we struggled to find an alternative date, due to the residentials and activities weeks happening, last Friday KS2 had a mini games day, where they played Boccia, team games and events, as well as took to the pool. Not quite the same but lots of fun was had. We were disappointed that we were unable to accommodate parents as well, but the logistics would have been a nightmare for all, and we had to make use of the time in between showers.
Unfortunately the weather has caused so many changes to planned events, both by the school and externally, which has meant a number of late notifications to all. We apologise profusely for this but we have had to fit in where we can, and notify as soon as we are able to, which for some is probably too short notice.
Fingers crossed that the weather, for other planned events, is kinder to us.
Year 6 are now on their week long residential, at Beam House, Great Torrington, North Devon. All arrived safely and were straight into the afternoon’s activities. Hopefully the weather will not impact too much on their activities, as they will be getting wet with surfing anyway. However the sun always makes things more enjoyable. Check out their day one here – DAY 1
It is hoped that there will be daily updates through the website, so you can see how their week is progressing.
Last Friday, ‘The Plankton Group’ shared their experiences with their parents and the school. As was stated in my last Blog – it was a fun-filled week, with activities throughout the whole day and week. There was very little ‘down time.’ The week was so positive and we want to continue to build upon this, to rejuvenate the twinning and exchanges through the children and families. It is hoped that next year we hold a ‘French’ evening, inviting interested parties to meet colleagues from France and the local community to move this forward.
Camp Out Weekend
Don’t forget 22nd & 23rd June is the Big Camp Out, on the school field. There are a range of activities organised, including the use of the pool; plus the added bonus of showers and toilets on site! If you have yet to book your pitch, please contact Rebecca Carter-Dillon (who is organising this event), or you can attend and pay on the day, if you just want a day of fun.

BH May change date & calendar
Bank Holidays are usually on a Monday, however there has been a recent an announcement that the spring Bank Holiday will be moved from Monday 4 May 2020 to Friday 8 May 2020. This is related to recognition of the 75th anniversary of the end of the Second World War in Europe. This does not impact on our school terms and dates. Staff Do Crazy Things Too!
Recently some staff have been challenging themselves or are about to challenge them self. Quite often, throughout the year, I get to hear of some of these feats, and have even taken part in an event. But not these!
Both Mrs Law and Mrs Walpole take part in triathlons. Recently they both competed the same weekend but at different events. Mrs Law took part in a triathlon and Mrs Walpole in an Iron Woman event, and both completing these successfully (and making it to school on the Monday!). Congratulations to both on an exceptional feat but also to Mrs Walpole for coming first in her age range and I believe 2nd overall!
We then have Mrs Toni Nicholson (Office) braving new heights and WING WALKING for charity! This event is yet to happen, but it’s all in a very good name – for Hugs from Henry. If you would like to find out more or even sponsor Toni please click on the link below. Hopefully we will get some footage of the event and find out how well she has done on July 10th.
