Firstly apologies that this a delayed Blog, an Inspector called!
As you are aware we had the Ofsted call and inspection this week. The lead inspector, Alex Baxter, had undertaken a range of evidence, from the website, national data and the LA prior to coming into the school. Unfortunately we are unable to comment any further on this inspection until his report has been approved and published. Thank you to all parents who completed the online survey, or who wrote in messages to the inspector. This provided him with a broad overview to gather further information from.
Over the past two weeks a couple of exciting sporting events have taken place, with varied success. Our basketball players achieved a great 2nd place in their competition. (We are hoping that they get the opportunity to play in further rounds.) Our Boccia players were amazing in an event that saw a record number attend. We look forward to their next event. Unfortunately, due to bad weather, the cross country at Goosewell had to be postponed. To date we have not been provided an alternative date.
Our new MUGA is up and running with great success and pleasure for the children. Don't forget to collect the Sainsburys School ActiveKids Vouchers - we are collecting these to purchase additional PE equipment, much of which will probably be used in the MUGA.
Although it is the last day of term our football team are playing at Bickleigh. Hopefully their run of winning continues, in what no doubt will be a closely fought match. We received some fantastic news this week that our Go-Ride team have been congratulated on being chosen to represent Plymouth schools, in the level 3 Devon School Games, later in the year. This is fantastic news for us as it means we can aim for that 5th Gold Sports Mark, which will enable us to receive a platinum, as we would have gained it 5 years on the run. Go Wembury!
RE has been a focus this week, with classes having guest speakers, writing, art and cooking based around this work. There was some wonderfully tasting Challah bread (Jewish) in years 2& 5 and I note Y2 ate with chocolate spread!!
There continue to be meetings regarding the possibility of co-creating a new MAT (Multi-Academy Trust). To date governors have only approved our name to be forwarded for consideration, with the knowledge that at any time we do not feel this is the right decision for Wembury we will withdraw. We of course are keeping our minds open to, and looking into, other possible options. At this stage NO decision has been made other than to explore.
With regards to staffing, you will be aware that both Mrs Kerry Dunn and Mrs Lyn Chamberlain have been off on long term sickness. We are very pleased that both should be returning after half term. Mrs Dunn will re-commence her Thursday and Friday in Foundation. We will be very sorry to see Mrs Briony Bellan leave us today; she has fitted in so well and adapted to Wembury life. We hope that we shall see her in her new capacity as a supply teacher.
As for Mrs Chamberlain, who has suffered from pneumonia, we will work with her to build up to her usual four days, with support from Mrs Becky Booth. I know that parents and children alike miss these staff members, as do we, and are looking forward to their return.
As you know we now use a bell to indicate certain times of the day. Please could you ensure your child is in school before the 8.50am bell, as that is the start of learning time. If a child arrives after this bell, they need to be signed in, by an adult, in the late book in Reception. Thank you for your co-operation.
Over half term we would like children to design a stamp, for the Royal Mail Christmas Stamp competition. Children should have brought home an entry form and parents should receive an email with additional information on the theme, rules and regulations. Please read these carefully so that no child is disappointed that their entry cannot be submitted. We have some very talented artists and are looking forward to seeing their designs, and hopefully success with it. Please return designs by Friday 10th March - thank you.
Hopefully this half term's weather will allow all to enjoy the outdoors and have fun. Let's hope we all come back refreshed and raring to go, with exciting times ahead! Have a super half term.
