Wow - What a day for Wembury at the annual Brickfields athletics competition this year. Our young athletes never cease to amaze us as they take up a challenge and show such courage and determinaion. Many of us can remember that intense feeling as you stand on a start line waiting for the gun and the looks on our children's faces said it all, a mixture of terror, concentration and determination, closely followed by pure joy as time after time our runners came 1st or 2nd in their heats.
We sailed through the the first round of sprints and relays and into the finals qualifying for no less than 12 final races, an all time high for Wembury!
With our scores being as high as they were throughout the day we our team managed to bring home not only a huge amount of certificate but in the finals:
4th- Joshua in year 3,
1st Blake in year 4,
4th - Grace, year 4,
2nd - Josh, year 5,
4th - Ruby, year 5,
2nd -Alex, year 6,
2nd - Daisy, year 6.
4th - 200m, Henry, year 5,
3rd - year 3/4 boys relay,
4th - year 3/4 girls relay,
4th - year 5/6 boys relay,
2nd - year 5/6 girld relay.
3rd - boys vortex, Alex, year 6,
4th - boys high jump, Oliver, year 6,
2nd - girls high jump, Daisy, year 6.
As if this wasn't enough, we were then awarded with 2 (rather large!) cups. The first was for the boys overall track positions; clearly highlighting their individual achievements from the day having placed so highly in each and every one of our races - well done boys!
The second was for the fastest girl's relay time of the whole day with our year 5/6 girls running the full 400m in just 61 seconds - that is fast!! Well done girls.
To put it mildly, Wembury we are so proud of you!!
