Our Year 6 runners were amazing today at the Ivybridge cross country event! After all our running since the beginning of Year 5, they were certainly prepared for the challenge! There were some tough decisions when selecting our 2 teams, as all children have been trying hard with their running. When it was time to start, there were some pre-race nerves for all children but once they began, they flew around the course, achieving some amazing positions. Although the children are given their individual positions, it's the whole team's combined position that counts towards the overall scoring.
In total, there were about 50-60 children in each race. The girls were up first, finishing in the following positions: 10th, 12th, 23rd, 24th, 29th and 33rd. In the boys race, we recorded the following positions: 2nd, 8th, 12th, 15th, 20th and 36th. A special mention must go to Henry, who finished in an incredible 2nd place in the boys race as well as Phoebe who was 10th for the girls! Well done to both but also to all children that competed. Every single one of them did us proud, giving it everything and representing our school so brilliantly. Go Wembury!
We await the overall team results, but judging by our placings, we have certainly performed very well as a school. Next up, we have the Coombe Dean warm-up event next Thursday, followed by the PSSP Level 2 cross country Championships the week after.
RESULTS UPDATE: We have now received the results and are very proud of our teams, with the girls finishing in 4th out of 7 teams and the boys finishing in 1st place out of 11 schools! Amazing! Well done runners!
