Row, row, row the rowing machine!
Fri 06 Jan 2017
What an energetic start to the new year for our Year 5 & 6 classes. Both classes spent the day completing rowing challenges using the indoor rowing machines provided by PSSP. This was an exciting opportunity to introduce most children to a new sporting activity.
Our fantastic year 6 Bronze ambassadors planned and delivered the warm up exercises to each class, explaining the exercises they were doing, what parts of the body they were warming up and how they would be using these during rowing.
Mr Roberts from PSSP who delivered the activity, went on to teach specific rowing technique and taught which muscle groups and areas of fitness they were using and developing. The morning concentrated on individual challenges, rowing as far as they could against the clock. The afternoon was team challenges, teams competed against each other in a race while navigating their way around the difficult changeovers required. All the children thoroughly enjoyed the event there were some very red faces and tired bodies by the end of the day proving how much effort they had all put into the activity. A number of our children really excelled and impressed the coach with their times and distances - Watch this space team GB rowing!!
