Wembury PlayDay 2018 PROGRAMME

Trumpet Taster Session!

Saltash Festival 2018

How proud are we? Our school choir, with instrumental, has won their category in the Saltash Music, Speech and Drama Festival with a DISTINCTION!

The choir sang two songs from the Lion King:

1. One by One

Comments from the judge were - 'A hugely atmospheric genius choice. Singing was rhythmic and full of energy throughout. Use of language was really authentic too. Super two part singing.'

2. Circle of Life

Comments from the judge were - 'More imaginative use of instruments here. The choir  divided confidently and the choreography was really theatrical. A rainbow nation in all ways! Beautifully prepared and excellent work.'

Their singing brought tears to our eyes, it was such a privilege to watch and listen to. As you can imagine the children were very proud of themselves as were our supporting parents and family members.

A fantastic reward for a fantastic performance!

We have also received the following email from a member of the audience -

I was at the Saltash Festival yesterday. I was totally blown away by your choir and musicians! An amazing performance and I was brought to tears by the Lion King. Your students and staff were a credit to the school and should be commended for their efforts. Well done to them all!

We are so proud of our pride!

Wembury ROCKS the stage at the Devon County Show

Wembury ROCKS the stage at the Devon County Show

The Year 5 class and Rock Bands from Years 5 and 6 made some seriously good music together today on a huge festival stage at the Devon County Show.

The sun shone, every child played and sang at their very best and worked together as a team to produce brilliant performances of I Love My Life by Robbie Williams, Wake Me Up by Avicii and One Day Like This by Elbow.

Well done Wembury - that was a BIG GIG. Be proud.

Wembury PlayDay 2017

Our annual celebration of music, WEMBURY PLAYDAY, showcased a wide range of wonderful musical talent and gave all children a chance to perform on stage to an attentive and appreciative audience.

The school raised the roof with inspiring songs such as Hey Jude, I Love My Life by Robbie Williams and Proud – all accompanied by children in the Year 5 and Year 6 rock bands.

Each class presented an instrumental arrangement of a well-known song – from Queen’s We will Rock You to Twist and Shout by the Beatles, Elbow’s One Day Like This and Viva la Vida by Coldplay – and over 80 pupils, from both KS1 and KS2, chose to perform on stage on their own or with a group of friends.

Even staff performed on instruments that they had been learning during the term.

Music certainly brought the whole school community together in an enjoyable and uplifting day.

Scratch Orchestra

Instrumental pupils joined the Year 6 class on the afternoon before Easter to devise their own piece based on the 12 Bar Blues.
Year 6 tuned percussion, ukulele, keyboard and boomwhacker players provided a solid 12 Bar Blues chord sequence; guitarists Daniel and Kieron and drummer Harrison brought Wipe Out into the mix; violin, flute, wind and brass players played a tune over the chord sequence and also improvised short tunes on notes E and G.
A video of the process and an extract of the informal performance to parents and the Year 5 class will be available soon.

The school was rocking to the sound of our DRUMATHON today!

Drum pupils were sponsored to drum for up to 30 minutes during the day to raise money for essential repairs to our drum kits.

Well done to all who drummed and a particular shout out to Oliver Shepherd who drummed for over 25 minutes!
