We understand that our residents and visitors may have concerns about coronavirus. We would like to reassure you that the government and NHS are well prepared to deal with this virus.

The county council is monitoring the situation closely and coordinating with Public Health England. We are taking all possible steps to keep you safe.

Handwashing advice

Most of us think we know how to wash our hands properly, but there are seven steps to effective hand washing to help prevent the spread of germs. This video from Torbay and South Devon NHS shows how simple it is.  Don't forget, you need to wash your hands for as long as it takes to sing 'happy birthday' twice (around 20 seconds).

Department for Education coronavirus helpline

The Department of Education has launched a new helpline to answer questions about coronavirus (COVID-19) related to education.

Staff, parents and young people can contact the helpline as follows:

No school should close in response to a suspected (or confirmed) COVID-19 case unless directed to do so by Public Health England.
