Today saw a number of firsts!
Not only did our team win in the multi-skills (please see the previous news article), it was also the first time that Wembury Primary had entered a music competition.
Over the next few days a number of children will participate in the Saltash Music Festival.
Today the children were entered for the category of 'choirs with musical accompaniment.' Being novices to the festival, they weren't quite sure of procedures but that did not stop them putting on the performance of their life! They sang two songs - Stand by Me and In the Jungle.
The latter song started with children making jungle animal sounds, rising to a crescendo before Djembe drums and guitar accompanied their singing. They performed like professionals but also with a sheer sense of enjoyment; needless to say they were awarded the WINNERS cup, which was almost as large as some of the children! There were comments of 'outstanding' and how they ' left a sense of champagne bubbles in the mouth' even after they had stopped singing! So not only a first time of entering but an award of first too. WELL DONE not only to the children but also to our fabulous Ms Boucherat for her inspirational teaching!
A number of children, who performed in the choir, are also going to enter as soloists, either singing or playing an instrument. We wish them all the very best and hope that today's win will spur them on to confident and enjoyable performances, for them, the judges and the audience.
