A Successful End to the Week

Our two teams of fabulous footballers from Year 3 & 4 ended the week on a high after visiting Compton Primary for a friendly match on Friday afternoon. There were lots of very excited faces as our Wembury United team started the first game. They were straight in with a fast pace and some very impressive skills. Compton were determined to fight their corner as the two teams battled it out over 4 quarters. We saw fantastic shots on goal, some great saves, speedy runs and super team work, resulting in an impressive 6-1 victory for Wembury (the 6th being slightly reminiscent of a Maradona moment, but we let it slide - this time!). Compton played very well - we would love a rematch!

Next it was the turn of our Wembury City team; the rain started to come down but that did nothing to dampen the spirits of our players. It was a very tight game, with Compton taking the lead. Credit must go to our first time goalkeeper, Kenzo, for some super saves, keeping the team in the game. Wembury followed Compton's goal with an equaliser and then Compton scored the winner to clinch a 2-1 win. Ajay was very unlucky to not score another, after a series of chances, but it was not to be. None of the children let up throughout a tough, rainy 32 minutes.

It is always a pleasure to witness such a great showing of team spirit and enthusiasm from our young children; this is something we are very proud of at Wembury Primary. Thank you to our hosts, Compton Primary, who made us feel really welcome. It looks like we have another year of enjoyable, successful sporting events ahead. Go Wembury!!
