It was another fantastic performance by our talented year 5/6 football team today. Eight team members travelled to Bickleigh Down Primary school to play a 7-a-side friendly match. The game got off to a fast start, with Bickleigh Down scoring the opening goal, closely followed by their second but Wembury were not done yet! They came back with two goals in quick succession by Aidan West, making it 2-2 just before half time. Wembury started well in the second half, dominating possession of the ball and creating lots of chances. Bram Hulme-Golding kept the scores level by showcasing his amazing goalkeeping talent, before Bickleigh Down managed to sneak in their third. In true Wembury fashion, the boys dug deep and Kai Weston equalised in the last few minutes, making the score 3-3. After a difficult start, the boys showed a real desire to compete and get back in to the match.
It was a tremendous effort by all involved and a great standard of football from both teams. Well done Harvey, Aidan, Kai, Dylan, Bram, Oliver, Rafa and Jack - we remain unbeaten in our school matches. Comments from Bickleigh Down coaches were that Wembury were the best team they had played against so far and that they had expected to win. In fact, their headteacher is so used to them winning matches, he asked "is that all?!" after being told the score was 2-1 to Bickleigh in the first half.
Well done Wembury - we are looking forward to the return match, on our home pitch, in two weeks.
