PARENT GOVERNOR VACANCY
I am writing to invite nominations to fill a vacancy on our school’s governing board for a Parent Governor. Please think about becoming a governor, or encouraging others to volunteer.
The school’s 14 governors are a mix of parents, school staff, and people from the wider community. All are valued and equal members of the governor team. Our governors meet monthly (10 times a year) and together they are responsible for the strategic direction of the school, promoting high standards of educational achievement and ensuring our resources are used to maximum impact. Life as a governor is interesting, varied and rewarding. We feel sure that there are parents prepared to take on this important role and give their time and commitment to support and challenge our school to provide an outstanding education for all children.
Enthusiasm, willingness to learn and a commitment to improving education for all pupils by working actively in a team are essential requirements. To be an effective team, we need to have a good spread of skills. At this time we are particularly looking for people who have experience or interest in one or more of: financial oversight, legal or personnel matters, procurement, premises or project management, marketing. Governors need to have some flexibility with their time as they need to be able to come into school during the school day on occasion. Internet access and word-processing and email skills are essential. The term of office is 4 years. Training and support will be available to help you develop into the role. This will include in-house mentoring and support as well as access to external governor training. Those new to being a governor are expected to attend induction training.
If you would like further information or an informal discussion about the role, please contact me on wemburyclerk @wembury-primary.sch.uk and I will be happy to help. There is also information on the Governor section of the school’s website.
If you would like to be considered for the role of Parent Governor, you will need to complete a nomination form (available form the office) and return to me via the school office no later than 12 noon on Thursday 28th April 2016. Please include a few details about yourself and why you would like to become a governor (up to 100 words). If there are more nominations than vacancies and an election is therefore required, the details you have provided will be circulated to all parents to help them decide who to vote for. The election, if needed, will be by secret ballot and details of the procedure will be sent to all parents.
Anyone standing for election must certify that he/she is not disqualified for any reason. Please check the disqualification criteria on the website. Parents/carers who have paid employment in the school for 500 hours per academic year or more or who are elected members of the Local Authority are not eligible to stand in these elections.
