To celebrate NSPCC Number Day 2018, we played a fun maths game before getting stuck in to an interesting investigation. The children played 'Closest to 1000' and 'Closest to 500' in pairs, which involves rolling dice and applying understanding of place value. The aim is to make a number that is closer to the target than your partner's number. The children loved the competition and had to work together to find which number was closer, particularly when aiming to get the closest to 500.
After this, we began an investigation (see below) which required the children to apply their understanding of area, perimeter, measures, addition, subtraction, scaling and multiplication! The children enjoyed the challenge and worked hard to find a solution. Good effort, Year 5!
