It was lovely to get outside and take advantage of our beautiful surroundings today, despite our very soggy walk back to school. We had a lovely stroll to Wembury woods this morning, taking in the views as we went. When we arrived at the woods, the children went on a scavenger hunt. They searched for a range of things which had different properties - something smooth, something soft, something waxy, something flexible and so on. It was interesting to share and discuss the range of things the children found.
Afterwards, the children considered the habitats, animals and insects that might live in the woods. This led to them creating nests for mice. Next, we played a game involving hiding and retrieving small, brightly-coloured/dull pieces of paper, enabling us to learn about camouflage and the defences of prey in the woods. Finally, and the most popular activity, we built dens after lunch! It was a great day out and the children really enjoyed themselves.
