Spelling

Every Wednesday, the children will have spelling homework (an activity booklet and online Spelling Shed) set for them. This homework is due in on the Monday, with a spelling test on the Tuesday. Of course, if your child would like to practise their spellings on Monday evening, please do encourage them to keep one of the spelling activity sheets!

 

We explore our spelling words in school every day, where we:

  • Learn how to pronounce the word, using our phonics and blending to help us
  • Explore the spelling rule or pattern and any exceptions
  • Learn the definition of each word and the etymology
  • Learn how to use the word in a sentence or a given context

 

Here you will find lots of spelling resources that will help your child throughout the year. If you have any concerns around your child's spelling, please do not hesitate to contact us.

  • Spelling Shed Children can practise their weekly spelling words here! They can even go back and revise the 1, 2, 3 and 4 words!
  • Online Dictionary & Thesaurus Using a physical dictionary and thesaurus is a Year 5 goal! However, if you don't have one at home, this online one will help you find definitions, synonyms and antonyms!
