Inspired by our visitor who taught us all about the Battle of the Somme, Year 6 explored and analysed the powerful poetry of Wilfred Owen. We looked at one of his most famous poems 'Dulce et Decorum est' and explored the statement: It is a wonderful and great honour to fight and die for your country. This was within the context of the First World War and the situation of the soldiers who fought. The children demonstrated great insight, skill at interpreting the writer's choice of techniques and language and resilience in persevering with a challenging text. They were then inspired to write their own poetry about 'The Shang Dynasty'.
