We've started this year by trying to inspire the children and create enthusiasm for Maths. This week we have had a go at various problem solving activities which have given the children opportunities to reason, identify patterns, think deeply and work collaboratively. The key ideas we have focused on this week have been: anyone can be a successful Mathematician- it is not true that some people are just good and Maths and others aren't; thinking deeply and making mistakes help us to become better at Maths; thinking visually is very important and depth of understanding is more important than speed. We've been very impressed with the children's attitudes and perseverance when tackling these challenging activities. Keep it up Year 5!
