In maths this morning, we were investigating square numbers and their factors. However, before we began investigating, we were discussing why square numbers are called square numbers and why cubed numbers are called cubed numbers. We used multilink to represent various square numbers. As you can see from our pictures, square numbers can be represented as a square and cubed numbers can be represented as a cube. This discussion led to one child asking the following question: if square numbers can be represented as squares and cubed numbers can be represented as cubes, what can numbers to the power of 4 be represented as? This was an excellent question which clearly demonstrates that the children are thinking deeply about maths. Keep it up year 5!
